We stayed with Gavin and Alice for ten days at the end of July. It was one of the best holidays of our lives! We felt like we were staying in a paradise – beautiful landscapes, peace and quiet, secret swimming spots and great local food. Gavin and Alice made us feel so welcome and part of the family. Their recommendations always took into account us as individuals and what we wanted to experience in our holiday. The apartment was of a really high standard and Alice’s cooking was delicious. We cannot recommend this place highly enough and will definitely be coming back!

This B&B is beautifully situated in the Tuscan mountains not far from Perugia airport. As everyone notes above, the hospitality really is second to none. Gavin and Alice are the perfect hosts and cannot do enough to make your stay something special. We were only staying for 2 nights and the meals that we ate here were among the best we had in our entire trip (especially the fresh truffle pasta). Alternatively, they also offer self-catering options and can advise on the best local restaurants. If you are looking for a very peaceful getaway in an undiscovered, rustic part of Tuscany with stunning views every way you turn, where you will be spoilt for choice in terms of what to do and what to eat (most importantly) you cannot go wrong with Ca’Valenzano. We stayed in La Piccionaia which has a great view out over the valley from the end of your bed. We have extremely fond memories of our stay and can’t wait to come back again. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to friends and family.

A truly wonderful stay with two fantastically friendly, helpful and charming hosts. Alice’s cooking is magnificent, with fresh home produced meals, homemade bread and rolls for breakfast, all on the terrace in the sunshine. Ca’Valenzano is very quiet and peaceful, with lovely views over the mountains and valleys, a perfect place to unwind. One highlight of our stay was a meal of truffle frittata, and tempura batter deep fried sage leaves, which we had just picked out of the herb garden! Couldn’t be fresher! Lots of other highlights too numerous to mention!

When there’s talk of the ending the holiday and the children cry at the thought of leaving it all behind, you know a good time has been had by all. And what a truly wonderful time we had. Gavin and Alice were the perfect hosts. Alice is an amazing cook with a seemingly endless store of cured meats, sauces, vegetables and fresh pasta. (Book a workshop so you can attempt to reproduce Ca’Valenzano culinary heaven when you return home!). Gavin has an abundance of local knowledge – you’ll usually find him in the garden but he’ll gladly stop for a chat and you can pick his brain for info on local events, activities, walking and restaurants. The kids loved the freedom and the relaxed family atmosphere… dips in the pool, playing with the animals, feeding the chickens and chatting with Gavin and Alice who are so kind and genuinely concerned that everyone is having a good time. You’ll be tempted to just stay at the house and enjoy the beautiful surroundings, cosy apartments, delicious food, amazing views from your terrace and the starry night skies… School starts tomorrow but there is already a chorus of ‘When are we going back?’
A perfect retreat for outdoor enthusiasts, foodies, animal lovers and those needing to push the ‘family re-set’ button.

I had the absolute pleasure of staying at Ca’Valenzano in spring . The atmosphere is serene and genuine, a perfect place to relax and reconnect yourself to the Earth by walking the local hills, eating the local, home-grown food, and enjoying deep sleeps only disturbed by the offering of breakfast on the balcony! What Gavin didn’t dig up from their garden, Alice magically produced from the larder – everything not eaten in season they preserve for enjoying later, from jams, chutneys, tomato sauce, salami and sausages. We also tried an excellent local argiturismo they recommended.

Delightful new apartment stylishly furnished in a typical Tuscan stone house. Lots of atmosphere! A lovely setup with beautiful panoramic view over the hilly landscape.
Owners are very friendly and helpful.
Breakfast was served with home made Italian food. The owner is also an excellent cook. We enjoyed a very tasty dinner.
It is really a little peace of heaven.

I’ve just got back from the most relaxing 10 days of my life! Ca’Valenzano is set in the picturesque and peaceful Tuscan mountains, surrounded by fantastic flaura and fauna in particular the honey scented wild broom. My little apartment was so lovely, a converted farm building all thick stone walls and huge beams with a wood burning stove and views from the bedroom you go away dreaming of. If I close my eyes I can still hear the cuckoo and the faint jingle of the bells from the cows grazing on nearbye slopes. Alice and Gavin are the most welcoming of hosts and kept me well provided with delicious home made and local produce. As well as enjoying their company, I thoroughly enjoyed meeting and becoming friends with their cats and lovely dog and was lucky enough to be with them the morning their 10 ducklings hatched. Oh and the wonderful daily walks along the many mountain paths were a highlight of each day. I have already booked to return and I can’t wait.

If you’re looking for someplace off the beaten track in Tuscany with excellent food and generous hospitality, stay with Alice and Gavin. Their beautifully restored guest house (another one is in the works) is not far up a narrow but paved road from Sestino (which has a remarkable selection of stores) and benefits from nice views of the valley and surrounding hills. It’s a great location to explore a more authentic region of Tuscany without the freeways and trucks but with great little museums full of Renaissance art just down the road. The best part is settling in for wonderful meals made mostly with their own produce. They are connaisseurs of Italian cuisine, spend a lot of time in their kitchen and gardens, work with local producers, and put on a great spread with really good food and conversation. Breakfast is also excellent, with freshly squeezed OJ, lovely cakes and homemade jams, etc.

We’ve just got back from an amazing stay at Ca’ Valenzano!

The apartment is fantastic, loads of space, and very homely, in a lovely location. Alice and Gavin were so welcoming and friendly, making us feel very much at home and comfortable, helping us to enjoy a really relaxing break. Alice’s cooking is delicious too, and Emma enjoyed the cooking classes – I think she’ll be getting her own pasta machine soon!

We would love to return very soon!

Stayed for a few days over the summer.

A beautiful location in the hills with stunning views, paths to wander along and fantastically welcoming hosts. We had some amazing food made by Alice fresh from the garden.

    Will visit again.
